Analysis of Relative Intensity Noise in OSSB/SCM Systems with Multiple In-Line Amplifiers

چکیده
This paper investigates the performance limitations due to Relative Noise Intensity (RIN) of long haul direct detection optical single side band systems employing subcarrier multiplexed techniques (OSSB/SCM) using in-line optical amplifiers. The influence of fiber nonlinearity, dispersion and loss on the RIN spectrum at fiber output is quantified and validated by simulation. Our results show that the average optical power at the fiber input greatly affects the RIN at the fiber output, which for low input fiber optical power is dominated by the in-line amplifiers noise whereas for high input optical power is dominated by the laser noise.

Average BER analysis of SCM-based free-space optical systems by considering the effect of IM3 with OSSB signals under turbulence channels.
In this paper, we derive the average bit error rate (BER) of subcarrier multiplexing (SCM)-based free space optics (FSO) systems using a dual-drive Mach-Zehnder modulator (DD-MZM) for optical single-sideband (OSSB) signals under atmospheric turbulence channels. In particular, we consider the third-order intermodulation (IM3), a significant performance degradation factor, in the case of high inp...

Static properties, relatively intensity noise and intensity modulation response in quantum cascade lasers (QCLs) studied theoretically in this paper. The present rate equations model consists of three equations for the electrons density in the conduction band and one equation for photons density in cavity length. Two equations were derived to calculate the noise and modulation response. Calcula...
متن کاملSubcarrier Multiplexing for High-Speed Optical Transmission
The performance of high-speed digital fiber-optic transmission using subcarrier multiplexing (SCM) is investigated both analytically and numerically. In order to reduce the impact of fiber chromatic dispersion and increase bandwidth efficiency, optical single-sideband (OSSB) modulation was used. Because frequency spacing between adjacent subcarriers can be much narrower than in a conventional D...
متن کاملNoise squeezing due to Kerr effect nonlinearities in optical fibres with negative dispersion
Kerr effect nonlinearities in optical fibres have been the subject of extensive studies [1 – 3]. Four wave-mixing (FWM) between the signal and the amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) noise was found to be an important source for system performance degradation, especially in systems using in-line optical amplifiers. With positive fibre dispersion, this effect is known as modulation instability ...
